IBM is a multinational corporation with its headquarters at Armonk, New York but spreading to all parts of the world. It is the largest computer company and the most profitable. It have 370, 000 employees in different parts of the world representing the largest information technology employer. IBM controls a big share of its market and has expanded to many parts of the world. These factors show that IBM is one of the high performance organizations of the world. The results of IBM show clearly its leadership role in the computer technology sector. Its operations of the recent past have produced results that show its high performance and its ability to continue performing well. The financial report for the year ended December 31 2006, posted in the companyââ¬â¢s website (http://www. ibm. com/investor/financials/index. phtml), showed that the company had a net income of $9,492 million as compared to $7,934 million the previous years. There was growth in total revenue from $91,134 million in 2005 to $91,424 million in 2006. The earnings per share for the year 2006 were $6. 11 compared with $4. 87 the previous year. Using revenue, net income and the earnings per share as the performance indicators we can clearly see that IBM posted very good results and indicated growth. IBM has been expanding its operation to all parts of the world. IBM provides technology solutions to businesses, organization to all parts of the world with an aim of helping the users to achieve increased productivity and success. Besides that IBM have in the recent past made many notable acquisition meaning itââ¬â¢s aimed at growing. IBM is very concerned with the satisfaction of its customers. IBM uses tools, processes, procedures and mechanisms of generating feedback aimed at making sure the customer is satisfied. The company monitors and responds to problems of customer so as to achieve customer satisfaction. It also provides expertise assistance all the time to its customers. IBM does not discriminate employees on any ground be it physical attributes or genetics. IBM has been helped by its employees to become a high performance organization. Through good human resource management the company allows its employees from all over the world to participate in core decision making. IBM involved its employees in the formulation of the companyââ¬â¢s values in 2003. The company has also facilitated discussion among its employees on key business issues. This has helped the company to brainstorm on new ideas that have contributed to improvement of the performance of the company. IBM also involved its employees in brainstorming on innovation ideas. All these efforts were aiming at involvement of the employees on the key issues affecting IBM operations. Why Suburbs are bad for United States Health :: essays research papers
A common definition of a suburb is a community in an outlying section of a city or, more commonly, a nearby, politically separate municipality with social and economic ties to the central city. In the 20th cent., particularly in the United States, population growth in urban areas has spilled increasingly outside the city limits and concentrated there, resulting in large metropolitan areas where the populations of the suburbs taken together exceed that of the central city. As growth of the suburbs continues, cost of labor for common suburban housing drops increasingly low. Houses are built with cheaper, less expensive materials and are built with the same model of construction time and time again. As this does no harm financially, the western world loses any uniqueness it once had. Meaning their is a very small amount of difference between Burnsville,Minnesota and Boone County,Kentucky. In modern suburbs things like cul-de-sacs and tangle towns are more common to be designed with. This makes it virtually impossible to include a mass transit system into the suburb. Thus, more driving, more gas use, and more emissions created in the atmosphere. A common response to this from a suburban residential is that the city is jam packed with congestion and pollution from stop and go traffic. Yet with cities, they are more dense, highly populated and many of the stop and go traffic is created by workers who live in the suburbs coming into the city at rush hour. One thing that works well in a typical city is mass transit. Things like buses, subways and train systems work well with block by square block areas, but not so with winding curving neighborhoods such as in suburbs. Another reason why mass transit does not play a major roll in the life of one who lives in a suburb is that suburban commuting consists of many different directions and destinations. Where as in the city typi cal people are commuting into the downtown. A central destination such as a downtown keeps things more conveniently close, and since so many people are making the trip to one single common place then gas can be saved by major carpooling, or in other words mass transit. An attraction to the suburbs for someone looking to raise a family is the suburbs generally contain less crime, less congestion and more isolation from a fast pace life.

The Inanga Documentary - 1953 Words
Presenting the material associated with the Inanga documentary to a group of unique high school students was an eye-opening experience that left an impact on the students about their overall perception of Africa. The seven students who viewed the documentary were all first generation American students whose parents immigrated to the United States before their they where born. A majority of them are originally from East Africa mainly composed of Ethiopians, Eritreans, and Somali high school students. In order to get the most out of this opportunity the students watched the documentary with minimal background introduction information besides the basic facts about the genocide, the main people in the film, and the terms all coming from the curriculum guide. Using this fact based approach for my introductions affected how the documentary was viewed because it avoided implanting any preconceived opinions about the movie that would result in a bias view of the film. While screening the mo vie, there were several mixed reactions as the students were receptive to the documentary in several unique ways. Each student held on to an aspect about the documentary different from others as they learned more about the Inanga and overall post-genocide Rwandan culture. At the conclusion of the documentary, I asked the students for their general thoughts about the film in order to see the reception of the learners to the documentary materials.
